The 100-day countdown towards the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup begins on March 9. Saint Petersburg will mark the beginning of the final 100-day stretch with an official ceremony at Saint Petersburg Stadium, the main arena of the upcoming “champions’ championship.”

As part of the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Vitaly Mutko, who chairs the Local Organising Committee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, Saint Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko and CEO of Russia-2018 Local Organising Committee Aleksey Sorokin will unveil a commemorative plaque and introduce a new World Cup Ambassador.

This will be followed by the Symbolic 100 Passes show, with participation of Brazilian star footballer Cafu, two-time world champion and Confederations Cup winner with the Brazil national team.

Keeping him company will be students of Saint Petersburg football schools and former Russia national team players Evgeny Aldonin, Vyacheslav Malafeyev, Dmitry Sennikov, Aleksey Smertin, Roman Shirokov, and other guests of honour.

In the afternoon, over a thousand volunteers will improvise folk dances of each of the eight Confederations Cup participating nations in Palace Square. The dance flash mob will unfold to the accompaniment of a DJ set played by former Russia squad goalie Ruslan Nigmatullin.
