A traffic control centre to be created in Nizhny Novgorod

A unified traffic control centre will be created in Nizhny Novgord as part of preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, the city administration’s press service told welcome2018.com. Preparation works for the development and implementation of the system have already begun.

"The intelligent system, which is being developed, will cover roads suffering the most from heavy traffic congestion in 2018 and thus ensure efficient navigation of various client groups and of public transport. This will serve as a basis for the further development of intelligent transport systems in the city, providing a stable vector of development and improvement of the transport infrastructure in general," said Dmitry Brylin, the city’s road traffic organization chief.

He also noted that, first and foremost the traffic control system will be implemented on highways such as Prospekt Lenina, Prospekt Gagarina, Moskovsoe and Kazanskoe highways, Belinskogo, Varvarskaya, Gorkogo and Rodionova streets.

The implementation of the project includes creating of a traffic control centre, upgrading traffic lights and other equipment, introducing special software for the intelligent transport system.

During the World Cup the system will ensure smooth navigation of client groups and priority for government delegations and public transport.
