Russia and New Zealand fans lay flowers at the memorial of the match in besieged Leningrad

Fans of the national teams of Russia and New Zealand on the eve of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 opening match laid flowers to the monument to the match participants in the besieged Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War.

The event was held on Saturday near the Dynamo stadium in Saint Petersburg during a break in the friendly match between the fans of the national teams.

The match in besieged Leningrad was held on May 31, 1942. Local Dynamo and the team of the Leningrad Metals Plant played. The monument to the participants of that match was opened in 2012 at the Dynamo stadium.

The Confederations Cup opening match between Russia and New Zealand will be held on Saturday in Saint Petersburg, it will begin at 6 p.m Moscow time. The opening ceremony of the tournament will begin at 4 p.m.
