The delegation of the British Embassy in Russia visited Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday. During the visit, British diplomats inspected facilities that are involved in preparation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.
"Nizhny Novgorod is quite compact, it's very convenient for fans," said British Consul Thomas Regan. "We visited the Strigino airport in Nizhny Novgorod, where I felt very comfortable. There will be free shuttles between the airport and hotels for the convenience of fans in Nizhny Novgorod. There are plans to provide information materials in English at the airport, this is very important."
Consul assured that "especially dangerous" British fans will not get to the World Cup matches. As he said, about 50 "football hooligans" from Britain have already received a ban on visiting large-scale sports events for the next 5 years.
"We are working at the embassy now in close cooperation with law enforcement agencies of Great Britain and Russia. Our task is to ensure the safety of the World Cup matches. Recently, a delegation of British police representatives visited the matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017: we discussed with them practical aspects of ensuring security," Regan added.
In 2018, Nizhny Novgorod will host six World Cup matches, including the quarter-finals.
