Samara music festival "Classics on the Volga" may be included in the cultural program of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Minister of culture of the Samara region Sergey Filippov told Welcome2018.com. The day before the festival won the National Russian Event Awards for the best cultural event. Organizers of the festival, which is held annually in June, expect in the future to make the festival one of the leading music events in Europe.
"Tens of thousands of guests will come for the World Cup in Russia to Samara. I am sure that among them there will be a lot of art lovers. And such events would be an additional incentive for someone to stay in our city after the matches," the Minister said. According to the festival director Alexey Vozilov, in 2018 the organizers will arrange a special program with the World Cup guests in mind. "We are ready to adapt the timing of the festival for guests of the championship. Of course, we will prepare an excellent program that will surprise the audience," he said.
Festival "Classics on the Volga" was first held in 2008. Since then, it was attended by musicians from 20 countries. Concerts are held during the river cruises. Another winner of Russian Event Awards-2015 will also participate in hosting the World Cup in Samara - International festival of street art "Plasticine rain", which was recognized as the best youth event.
"No significant festival of street art is complete without “Plasticine Rain”. Street performances, clown performances and acrobatic performance by theater actors perfectly fit into the program of the festival for guests," Filippov said.
The grand finale of the Russian Event Awards-2015 was held in Kazan On October 22. 8 projects from the Samara region won the award. The festival "Classics on the Volga" won grand Prix in the nomination "The best cultural event". 688 projects from 353 cities that represented 69 regions of Russia were submitted in total. In 2018 Samara will host six World Cup matches. Four meetings of the group stage (June 17, 21, 25 and 28), one 1/8 match (July 2) and one quarter-final match (July 7). New football stadium will be built for the tournament with 45,000 seats. During the 2018 World Cup it will be called "Samara arena", after – “Cosmos arena”.
