Ekaterinburg hosted the "Cross of the Nation" race dedicated to the 2018 World Cup

Ekaterinburg hosted an all-Russian "Cross of the Nation" Running Day. Tens of thousands of they city residents took part in the event, which was dedicated to the FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia™ matches that will be held in Ekaterinburg. .

The race started on the square in front of the Ural Federal University which became the basis for a 2018 World Cup volunteer centre. Teams from all over the city gathered here along with students, active families, athletes with disabilities, the city’s and the region’s leaders. The race route was a symbolic 2,018 meters long in length.

Ekaterinburg's interactive area connected to the 2018 World Cup was open to all race participants.

Visitors eagerly participated in a traditional quiz on the history of the championship, took pictures with the host city’s symbol in a specially designated photo zone and were given the opportunity to show off their own football skills. Guests of the interactive were also informed on the beginning of the voting on the official 2018 World Cup mascot and were offered to take a picture next to the hashtag #ВыбирайТалисман (VybirayTalisman which means choose the mascot). The visitors shared their opinions on which of the three offered options – a tiger, a wolf or a cat - is the best and deserves to become the official mascot for the upcoming championship.

All participants received memorable souvenirs and the "Cross of the Nation" race winners were awarded prizes with the host city’s symbol.
