Kuban for the second time became Russia’s most accomplished region in developing physical education and sports. According to Krasnodar region’s press service, Kuban is also leading demographically among a number of Russia’s regions with its population exceeding 2 million people (surpassing Saint Petersburg and Moscow region).

The Russian Minister of Sports and Chairman of Russia-2018 Organizing Committee Vitaliy Mutko presented the award to the head of the Sports Regional Department Ludmila Chernova.

The results of the contest which took place in 2015 and included 85 subjects of the Russian Federation were announced by the minister on August 21 during his working trip to Sochi. Physical education and sports activities were evaluated in such nominations as "physical culture and mass sports," "children and youth sports," "highest achievements in sports," and "sports infrastructure."

"This achievement belongs to our region – our trainers, our athletes, the regions authorities, all of Kuban’s residents, because we are active in all spheres. I think that this trophy is not the end, it’s an advance for our future," Ludmila Chernova said.
