Works on laying lawn began at the Kazan Arena stadium of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the technical director of the stadium Evgeny Tsvetkov told Welcome2018.com. 450 rolls of lawn will be laid on the football field.
"We plan to finish the works on laying down the lawn in the next 3 or 4 days. In 10 days Kazan Arena will be ready to host football matches," he said. On November 5 Rubin Kazan will meet with the Liverpool in a match of the fourth round of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
New lawn can be used for the matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Minister Assistant at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan Bulat Kadyrov said earlier. “New lawn can stay for 2018,” he said. “The decision will depend on how the grass takes root, as well as from its future state," he added.
Kazan Arena stadium was built in 2013 to the Summer Universiade. In the first part of the 2014/15 season Rubin players used it for hosting home games. In the spring of 2015 the arena was closed for reconstruction for the World Aquatics Championships, which took place in August. For competitions in synchronized swimming and swimming in the individual distances two pools were installed at the stadium - the main and training pool, as well as temporary bleachers for 12,000 spectators. Thus, the lawn was worn out. In September the temporary structures erected for the FINA World Championships were completely dismantled.
