The Saint Petersburg Stadium is great, almost flawless. This opinion was expressed by the head coach of the Saint Petersburg FC Zenit Mircea Lucescu.
On Saturday the new stadium will host its first official match. Zenit will play against Ekaterinburg Ural as a part of the 24-round of Championship of Russia . On Thursday, the 'Blue-White-Sky Blues' held the first training session at the new arena.
"Yesterday we checked the field, its state," said Lucescu. "Saw the changing rooms, then had a real training session at the Udelnaya base. The stadium is incredible, great, almost flawless, comfortable, very impressive, perfectly suited for football. The roof is very high, let's see how it will be during the game, when you run. The good thing is the stadium has a roof, so it is protected from the weather, you can play at any time of the year. The audience is closer to the field than on our old stadium, there will be more support."
Saint Petersburg Stadium will be the main arena for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017. It will hold the opening and the final tournament matches. A year later, the stadium will host 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ matches.
