More than 17 million tourists visited Moscow in 2015

Event tourism is becoming more and more popular

More than 17 million tourists visited the Russian capital in 2015, 74% of them - the Russian citizens, Head of the Department of national policy, inter-regional relations and tourism of Moscow Vladimir Chernikov said at a meeting of the Coordinating Council for Tourism under the Government of Moscow.

According to Chernikov, last year the tourism industry has brought more than 450-460 billion rubles to the city budget. "This is by 11.6% higher than in 2014,” he said. Chernikov noted that event tourism is becoming more and more popular, "Tourists are attracted by the various city events, including festivals "Spasskaya Tower", "Circle of Light", "Journey to Christmas", "Moscow Spring", "Moscow autumn", and others."

Thus, according to the Department of national policy, interregional relations and tourism of Moscow, the festival "Journey to Christmas" in 2015-2016 was visited by over 11 million people, including 4 million tourists from the regions of Russia and other countries.

Chernikov said that in 2015 the number of tourist companies focused on domestic tourism increased from 2751 to 3291. "Last year, we turned to these companies with a request to focus on the city’s event calendar," he said.
