Moscow ticket inspectors to learn English for the 2018 World Cup

All of Moscow’s public transport ticket inspectors will pass an English language course as part of preparation works for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, according to the City Hall press service. The inspectors as well as taxi drivers will also be given phrasebooks containing common situations and useful phrases in English to aid them in their work.

According to Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov, some of the employees will complete their training in 2017 before the beginning of the Confederations Cup 2017.

Ticket inspectors will listen to lectures on working with tourists and will pass tests on their knowledge of the English language, he added. Those, who successfully pass the tests will be assigned to main tourist routes.

To make Moscow’s metro more comfortable, city officials will also introduce a single standard for audio notifications – announcements will be made both in Russian and English.

Audio notifications citing rules of conduct in the metro, which can be heard while riding escalators and near signs, will also be translated into English
