The Russian capital expects up to 1 million fans from different countries during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. This was announced by the head of the hotel management department of the Department of Sport and Tourism of Moscow Aleksey Tikhnenko, who is on a visit to Tokyo, where the international tourism exhibition JATA is held.

"Reservation of rooms currently is very active, many choose Moscow as a base city, so that if necessary, they can go to other cities where the matches are held. We expect that up to a million fans will come to Moscow during the World Cup," he said.

Aleksey Tikhnenko also noted that the Moscow authorities introduced regulation of prices for accommodation in Moscow hotels, so that they are not operpriced on the days of the World Championship. According to him, today in Moscow there are more than a thousand hotels with a total number of rooms in the range of 63 thousand, and on average tourists spend three to four days in the capital.

"Considering the fact that many are hostel-style hotels, 163,000 people can be accommodated at the same time in the capital. This year it is planned to build 11 chain hotels with a capacity of 3,000 rooms, and we also expect that about 100 inexpensive hotels, including hostels will be opened by the 2018 World Cup," added Tikhnenko.

Next summer, Moscow will host 12 World Cup games, including opening, semi-final and final matches.
