A team from the Nizny Novgorod volunteer centre for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ held a football match against a team comprised of journalists and employees of FC Olimiyets Nizny Novgorod.

The match was dedicated to the New Year holidays and the end of the application stage for candidates who wanted to join the Local Organising Committee Russia 2018 volunteers. All partisans of the match showed that they are in excellent shape.

The referee wore a Ded Moroz (Russian version of Santa Claus – Welcome2018) costume and used yellow and red cardboard snowflakes instead of cards.

"The friendly became one of the most memorable events in recent memory. It brought a lot of positive emotions. The spirit of competition was strong during the game but after there were only friendly discussions.

Thanks to this event, we, volunteers, became an even tighter team. Despite the weather, the participants never lost their good mood and souvenirs with the host city’s symbols touched everybody," volunteer centre activist Artem Naipak shared his feelings on the game.

"More often than not these kinds of matches end in a draw to highlight their friendly nature. This time, however, everything was different. In the beginning of the game there was a feeling that the match will end in defeat but we managed to make an impressive comeback. Even though we were unable to keep an upper hand, but I believe that all participants had a great time. It’s nice to see that people, who can be involved in organizing the championship, are in such great shape," FC Olimiyets employee Vladimir Komissarov
