Football field of the Fisht stadium in Sochi, which will host matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, will be covered with two kinds of grass - a fast-growing grass to restore the turf after the game, and the soft grass for the comfort of the players, the construction ministry of the Krasnodar region told Welcome2018.com. Agronomists have already finished sowing the lawn, which will grow in artificial heating.

600 kg of seeds were brought from Denmark

Taking into account the climat characteristics of the subtropical Sochi, two types of grass were chosen for the Fisht stadium - ryegrass and bluegrass, 600 kg of seeds were brought from Denmark. The lawn will spring before the New Year.

"Ryegrass basically gives color, leaf mass, its regeneration is very high, recovers after the game. Bluegrass is the kind of grass that creates the effect of splendor, will provide comfort for the players," chief agronomist Valentin Kozhuhantsev said.

In 2018 Sochi will host six matches of the World Cup: 4 group stage meetings, one 1/8 finals match and one quarter-final. In 2017, Sochi, along with Kazan, Moscow and St. Petersburg will host the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Fisht stadium is a multifunctional sports and entertainment center, with 45,000 seats. At the heart of the architectural project are images of seashells and snowy peaks. The arena is located in the Imereti lowland, Adler district, Sochi. Apart from football matches, the stadium will host various mass celebrations.
