29 December 2016

Samara erected an ice model of Samara Arena which will host the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. The model was placed on Kuibysheva square. On December 27, the city’s main Christmas tree was lit up on the square while ice sculptures were decorated with LED lights.

This year, Samara’s not traditional town, which is created by craftsmen from Saint Petersburg, is made up of eight figures, including ice models of the Shipka fortress, the Stele Ladya (Rook), the Soyuz carrier rocket, the Krylia monument and Samara Arena. In 2018, the stadium capable of seating 45,000 will host six World Cup matches, while the Soyuz rocket carrier as well as the Krylia monument are part of Samara’s trademark style.

The “Football” LED construction will be erected on Kuybysheva square for the first time. It will be more than five meters in height. All participants of city celebrations will see a sparkling sphere, enter it and even take a New Year’s picture. Installation works are scheduled to be over by December 30.
