Sochi celebrates World Football Day

Eight teams participated in a festive tournament

Sochi celebrated World Football Day on December 10 by holding a youth football tournament, the city administration press service told welcome2018.com. The tournament, which took place at the Yunost Stadium (Youth Stadium) in Adler, welcomed players aged from 10 to 13 belonging to eight teams from the city’s Football centre.

"Today we pay special attention to the city’s preparation works for the FIFA Confederations Cup, which will take place next year. Based on the results of Kazan’s draw ceremony, Sochi will welcome teams from Germany, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and the winner of the African nations Cup," Sochi official Aleksandra Stupko said. "Residents of the Krasnodar Territory are very interested in purchasing tickets for the matches in Sochi, and, therefore, one of our main goals is to promote the host city of Sochi and to inform the citizens and guests of the work done to prepare the city for an event of this scale."

Spartak Adler and Torpedo-Adler youth teams meat in the finals of the celebratory tournament. The latter won with a score of 8:2. Both teams will receive gifts with symbols of Sochi as a host city of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.
