Spain wins international youth football tournament on Red Square

Second place went to the Russian team, third and fourth – to Germany and Italy respectively

Spain won the international football tournament with junior teams of up to 16 years on the Red Square in Moscow, which was held on Friday in celebration of the 1000 days to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish team finished with a 4:2 victory over Russia.

The best teams were on the field — the teams of Italy, Spain and Germany (countries whose teams have won previous world championships) and Russia (the host country of the upcoming tournament). The teams played in the 6 v 6 format (goalkeeper plus five outfield players). The tournament included two semi-finals, the match for the third place and the final.

The match between Russia and Italy ended with the score of 5:2, Spain beat Germany with 2:0. Italy lost 8:4 to Germany in the match for the third place.

Established football stars attended the tournament — internationally recognized football players, representatives of football federations: Spanish footballer and coach, former captain of the Spanish national team Fernando Hierro, former captain of the Russian national team Alexey Smertin, German footballer, 1990 World champion Lothar Matthaus, Italian football player and coach, 2006 World champion Gianluca Zambrotta.
