Sochi high school students to work as guides for 2018 World Cup fans

Next academic year a language training program for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ volunteers starts in Sochi schools.

Volunteer guides will be high school students, they will show the resort attractions to the fans, the Head of Sochi Department for Education and Science Olga Medvedeva told welcome2018.com.

"English teachers who have completed the course entitled Towards the FIFA World Cup  will give extra classes to the 10 grades. Volunteers will study the "Welcoming FIFA World Cup 2018" textbook, which contains a lot of interesting material on football history, including history of Russian football, great Russian and foreign football players, rules of the game, famous stadiums of the world, famous Sochi football player and coaches," Medvedeva said.

The course also includes stories about Sochi sights such as the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort , the Olympic Park, the tower on Mount Akhun, the National Park, the Seaport, the Festivalny concert hall, the Winter Theater, the Arboretum Botanical Garden.

With the help of volunteers foreign fans will get acquainted with the city history, learn about the traditions and city residents way of life, the cuisine of the Caucasus, the professions popular in the city and shopping in Sochi.

Also in May Sochi authorities will launch the Word of the Day project, within which Russian fans will be able to memorize main football terms in English for the forthcoming in June FIFA Confederation Cup 2017 and the 2018 World Cup.
