Kia Motors announced the start of the Young Referee 2017 contest. The winners will be able to put the ball into play during the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 matches.
To participate in the contest one must be a boy or a girl from 10 to 14 y. o. The participant or his adult representative must publish on their Facebook or VKontakte personal page an original work about their love of football in the format of a photo, video or essay, and also add hashtags #ЮныйАрбитр2017 (#YoungReferee2017) and #KiaОМВС. Works are accepted from April 7 to April 30.
The finalists will be determined by a closed vote of the competition committee members, which includes UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Oksana Fedorova, former Russian goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin and 2018 World Cup host-city Sochi Ambassador, former defender of the USSR team Evgeny Lovchev. The jury includes the Sport-Express editor-in-chief Maxim Maximov and two representatives of Kia Motors, the organizer of the contest. Names of the winners will be announced on May 12.
A similar competition was held before the European Championships in 2016 in France. However, then there was only a single representative from Russia, now there will be 11 of them; five more "young referees" will be determined by the competitions in Germany, Spain, Chile, Malaysia and the Bahamas.
"Last year we collected around 200 works, this year we hope there will be many times more. It should be noted that the organizers will take care of all expenses - travel, accommodation," said Valery Tarakanov, marketing director of Kia Motors Rus.
Young Referee competition is held since 2008; Russia joined the project in 2012.
