The 2018 World Cup Kaliningrad Stadium completes first roof corner block

The stadium will have 16 roof blocks, according to the project.

Installation of the first corner block was successfully completed at the Kaliningrad Stadium which will host 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ matches, the press-service for the project’s designer and developer Sport-Engineering told Welcome2018 , noting that the block was installed together with the internal console.

Currently, two caterpillar track cranes with a high lifting capacity of 750 tons, one of 650 tons and another of 350 tons are involved in the construction works. Construction of the roof is under way in two directions toward one another, with two cranes on each side - one installing the roof blocks and the other working on the seams between them. According to the project, the stadium will have 16 roof blocks seven of which are already installed.

The Kaliningrad Stadium is located on the Oktyabrsky island between the Starya and Novaya Pregolya rivers. According to the project, the stadium's roof span over the stands and have a rectangular opening over the football field.
