The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Volunteer Programme broke the record for the number of applications in the championship’s history. There are currently over 157,000 applicants registered, Head of Volunteer Department of the Organizing Committee "Russia 2018" Tatiana Gomzyakova told Welcome2018.

"These numbers prove the immense interest people have in the World Cup volunteering in our country," Gomzyakova said. "Currently we have almost 160,000 applications. The previous record was set by Brazil, where there was around 150,000 people."

2017 will be a very busy year for volunteers. "Volunteer training will start in the second quarter, the Confederations Cup will be held in summer and at the end of the year we will have the World Cup final draw," the volunteer department head noted.
