A Viking village will be built in the Kaliningrad region for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, organizers of the KAUP Historical Reenactment Festival told Welcome2018.com.

Annually since 2006, KAUP Historical Reenactment Festival takes place in the Kaliningrad Region. Every July for three days, it gathers participants and spectators from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Baltic Countries.

The festival is traditionally held in late July, but according to the organizers, in 2018 the festival will be shifted to an earlier date, so that the World Cup guest could visit KAUP.

Since 2016, by the decree of Zelenograd city district Head, a constant site was determined for the festival - on the lake, south of Romanovo village. The location made it possible to build a replica of a Viking settlement, which will operate as a tourist site even after the festival.

Visitors can reach the site by bus as well as a special shuttle from Kaliningrad, Svetlogorsk and Pionersky.

In 2016, the festival will take place from July 29 to 31 July. By that time the settlement will be partially built.

The organizers plan to complete the construction by 2018. The festival site is expected to be expanded twice, 300 people will be directly involved in the festival.
