Vitaly Mutko comes to Saransk on official visit

Deputy Prime Minister visited the airport, the stadium and 2018 World Cup training grounds

Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee Vitaliy Mutko paid Saransk an inspection visit. Deputy Prime Minister inspected the airport, 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ stadium, training grounds, construction of hotels and residential facilties, FIFA Fan Fest site, and also held a meeting with the Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov. Local Organising Committee CEO Aleksey Sorokin and representatives of federal ministries and agencies also took part in the visit.

Deputy Prime Minister noted that the bulk of construction of the 2018 World Cup Saransk stadium was scheduled to be completed before the end of 2017. LOC Chairman reported that the Arena Mordovia stadium turf will be installed in July. "As for the stadium, we have adjusted the schedule, turf will be installed in July," said Mutko.

According to Mutko, work at all construction sites of Saransk facilities which will be involved in the World Cup, is proceeding at a rapid rate. "This pace must be preserved. Airport requires special attention – major work will continue there. As for the new hotels, one is ready, the second one is almost ready, and two more are under construction," he said.

"Much has been done, much has been done in preparation for the World Cup, but still a lot to do. The world championship is a complex project. We have to do everything so the bulk of the work is completed this year, I am confident that we can handle the development part, it is necessary to be concerned with operational activities," Mutko summed up the results of the visit.

When asked whether before the World Cup the Russia national team can play at the city's new stadium, Mutko said: "Why not? We want to play at the new arenas. This year we want to open Rostov Arena and Luzhniki."

In 2018 Saransk will host four group matches of the World Cup.
