Vladimir Putin and Joseph Blatter to open Preliminary Draw for 2018 World Cup

On 25 July, the Preliminary Draw for the FIFA 2018 World Cup will open with greetings by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and FIFA President Joseph Blatter, TASS reports, citing Christian Unger, the FIFA official overseeing the 2018 World Cup preparation.  

“The Presidents of Russia and FIFA will deliver their greetings at the beginning of the ceremony. Putin will be first to speak, then Blatter. FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke will run the actual draw,” Unger told reporters.

The Russian President’s press spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to TASS on 21 July that Vladimir Putin will be attending the 2018 World Cup Preliminary Draw.  

The FIFA 2018 World Cup Preliminary Draw is taking place on 25 July at Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg.
