The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Volgograd Arena construction workers will strengthen the shore slope and will build terraces and stairs, the press service of the main contractor Stroytransgaz told welcome2018.com

Builders will need to form a stable slope in this area, which will house two entrances to the stadium, two terraces and stairs for the arena’s guests.

In order to form a stable slope, specialists will need to replace a large amount of clay-bearing soil the sand, which will eliminate the risk of slope failure. The volume of soil, which needs to be replaces by sand will amount to 190 thousand cubic meters. The workers already laid the first 10,000 cubic meters of sand.

"To ensure a high quality of work, a new layer of sand will be applied only after receiving positive lab results on the density of the previous layer," the construction supervisor Sergei Kamin said.

The Volgograd Arena is being built on the site of the dismantled Central Stadium, between Mamayev Kurgan and the right Volga River embankment. This stadium will seat 45,000 spectators and will become Russia’s first arena with a cable-stayed roof (supported by high endurance cables). The contract costs 16.2 billion roubles with the deadline set for November 20, 2017.
