The ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award ceremony has been held in Kazan. The city’s administration press-service says the Kazan Arena stadium announced the year’s volunteer activity results and commended the most outstanding volunteers. More than 80 of them received certificates and special prizes, with the participation of the “Russia-2018” Organisation Committee’s Tatyana Nikulina.

In 2016 activists took part in more than 100 international and national events in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan. Among them were the European judo championship, European Sambo championship, World diving series, a stage of the Rugby 7s European championship and others. Altogether more than 2,000 volunteers took part in the event, working some 50,000 hours.

The “Volunteer of the Year” ceremony is traditionally held on International Volunteer Day, celebrated December 5 around the world. This was the 6th time this ceremony was held.
