Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo, four times recognized as the best football player of the world, came to the match of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 group stage with the Russian national team, accompanied by 10-year-old Polina Khaeredinova, a girl with special needs. This is the first time in the history of FIFA, when a player appeared on the field with a child with disabilities.
This event, became possible thanks to the unique Programme "Going to the FIFA Confederations Cup together with McDonald’s", showed that world of football is open for children with special needs. They can fully experience their involvement in international sports competitions. In each of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 host cities before one of the matches, the captain of one of the teams will appear on the field accompanied by a child in a wheelchair.
The match between the national teams of Portugal and Russia was held in Moscow at the Spartak Stadium and ended with a victory of the Portuguese with a score of 1 - 0. The only goal in the 8th minute was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.
