The Government of the Republic of Mordovia approved a language support programme in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, the Saransk 2018 Directorate head Alexey Pleshachkov told welcome2018.com.

"As part of the programme approved by the republic’s government, specialists most involved in preparation for the World Cup will undergo the training, along with representatives of the hospitality industry such as hotel, train station, airport staff and the management of cafes and restaurants. All in all, the programme will involve more than 3,000 residents of the republic. World Cup organizers in Saransk, security services and tourist information centre employees will also study up on English," Pleshachkov said.

The studies will depend on the students’ level of English proficiency and their motivation. The programme includes tests, grammar, reading, writing, listening, dialogue (on general and professional topics).

"Another major part of the studies will include preparing content which will aid in communicating with the championship’s guests such as phrase books, maps, travel guides, menus, English language navigation. We believe that it is also necessary to use special phone applications which will show on-screen text translations of live speech," Pleshachkov added.
