The Rostov State Musical Theatre is the successor of the Theatre of Musical Comedy, which emerged in Rostov in 1919. It was considered to be one of the best operetta theatres in the Soviet Union and became famous thanks to the staging of classical plays by Jacque Offenbach, Alexey Ryabov, Alexey Rybnikov. The authorities decided not to refurbish the shabby building of the theatre, but build a new one. In 1999 in Rostov another sight emerged – the new theatre in the form of a white piano with an open lid.

Based on its technical characteristics the Rostov Musical Theatre is considered to be one of the best in the country. After changing its status the theatre expanded its repertoire. The opera plays "Queen of Spades" by Alexander Pushkin, "La traviata" and Joan of Arc by Giuseppe Verdi, the ballets play "Romeo and Juliette" based on the music by Sergey Prokofiev and The Sleeping Beauty by Chaykovsky – all these plays boast great success. Besides, you can go to a operetta, musical, a rock opera or a symphonic concert.

Among the actors of the troupe there are laureates of Russian and international theatre awards, including the distinguished actors of Russia Piotr Makarov (baritone), the bas singer Alexander Musienka, the ballet dancer Elizaveta Misler, Viacheslav Kapustin, who received an award during the Galina Ulanova All-Russian artistic contest.

The Musical theatre has gained numerous loyal fans, that’s why it is better to book tickets in advance.
